AFAIK (maybe luks can correct me here if i'm wrong) gracenote doesn't
even use the discIDs that MB uses.
they use patteneted fuzzy methods that allow "discids" that differ
slightly to point to the same data set. so in a way, yes.. they do
have all "homebrew" IDs if not most.

as to my understanding MB can not recreate this fuzzy look up method
without patent infringement.

just because a CD is burnt doesn't mean that it's illegal or "cruft"
or not containing the music for which we have the meta data.
you can burn legally obtained music from itunes and emusic.

there is nothing fake about a discid that is matched to it's proper metadata.

i spend a lot of time as do we all making sure our data is nice and
correct. therefore i want my applications that support MB to use MB
data
