these two packages are incompatible as they contain the same named include files and inconsistent struct definitions.
-portablexdr has a subset of the bsd-xdr functions. -The licensing issues mentioned for the motivation for portablexdr have been moot for some time, since Sun converted to BSD style. -Cygwin adapted bsd-xdr https://cygwin.com/ml/cygwin-patches/2010-q1/msg00070.html - bsd-xdr seems (for my use, at least) compatible with equivalent code in Linux; portablexdr is not.
