shutdown crashes

I've been experiencing shutdown crashes since the secnews.netscape.com
news server has been down. This post is more or less a test to try to
narrow down whether posting to a non-secure news server is related. It
doesn't seem to happen when groups are only read, nor after just
sending/receiving non-secure mail.

Bug 83752 is similar, but is currently marked as mac only. If I crash
after sending this post, I guess that bug is not mac only after all.
