You can specify any sound you want.
Add the following lines in your prefs.js:
user_pref("mail.biff.play_sound",true);
user_pref("mail.biff.use_default_sound", false);
user_pref("mail.biff.sound_file", "C:\\Windows\\Media\\newmail.wav");
(--> how the path is set in a MAC I don't know...)
