Right now, selecting that option for a folder makes it so that when you
read a message in that folder, we download that message for offline use
(i.e., we make a local copy of the message that you can read even when
you're not connected to the network). Currently, downloaded messages
will show up in italics in the thread pane; in the future, they will
have a special icon in the thread pane.
In the future, that option will also cause us to download all the
messages in that folder for offline use when you synchronize for offline
use. The UI for that is not hooked up yet.
There is a server-specific preference to limit the size of the messages
we will download for offline use, so clicking on large messages won't
consume all your disk space. It's currently 50K, I think.
