I'm having some serious problems with the newsreader portion of 0.8 on
Win98: namely, it opens new connections to my news server almost every
time I try to view a message, and then doesn't close them. I have both
enabled and disabled "Keep Alive" in the "Debug" section of
"Preferences," but this did not solve the problem. This does not happen
every time I view a message -- I can usually get through a few items
before it kicks in -- but once it starts it opens a new connection for
every message. This is especially annoying since my server will only
allow five open connections.

Each message appears to download completely, nor does there appear to be
any pattern to which message triggers this. Once it starts, and the
connections are open, attempting to close Mozilla results in an error:
MOZILLA caused invalid page fault in MSGMAIL.DLL. My news server does
not require authentication.

I have tried adjusting my firewall, on the off chance that it would not
permit Mozilla to close the connection: I now have identical rules for
Mozilla as I did for Outlook Express and Netscape Communicator, but
still no luck.

The error appears to be caused by connections remaining open after the
download is complete. So, is this a known bug (my stupidity), an
unknown bug (bug), or an incorrect setting on my machine that refuses to
allow connections to be closed (my stupidity). I ask that the smart
folk ehlp me decide.
