Zumbro Valley Audubon (based in Rochester) is now conducting their monthly programs via ZOOM. This both allows them to invite speakers that would have previously been too distant and offers an opportunity to expand their audience. The first virtual program is Tuesday, and it looks excellent-- how vultures can help provide clues at crime scenes. See below for details. Posted with admin permission.
Lance Vrieze ZVAS Board Member Olmsted County *Our monthly programs are back via ZOOM!* Sept. 22, 2020 from 7 - 8 pm Central Time *Can vultures help solve a murder?* *Can a bird that symbolizes death help the living catch criminals?* In this informative presentation, forensic anthropologist Lauren Pharr Parks, PHD shows us how vultures can impact crime scenes -- and the assistance they provide to detectives investigating murders. The intersection of bird biology and crime solving is a fascinating subject and Dr. Pharr Parks has shown that the deeper study of vulture scavenging can lead to faster and more accurate work in identifying human remains. Her work has led her across the country to help law enforcement professionals and researchers at the Texas State Forensic Anthropology Research Facility, the Smithsonian Ornithology Laboratory and the New York City Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. *Sept. 22, 2020 from 7 - 8 pm Central TimeThe Meeting ID is: 850 4669 6968The passcode is: 470188 It is easy to join in from the comfort of your own home:1.
