Just had an exciting sighting. A friend called me to see what birds I
was seeing at my feeders. Still on the phone, I went to the window but there
were no birds in sight so I wondered if a Coopers hawk was around. Instead, I
spotted a Northern Shrike at the top of a tree. It sat there for a couple
minutes and then chased a Black-capped Chickadee out of sight. I told him
about the sighting. About 15 minutes later, my friend, who lives 3 blocks
away, called and said he had a Northern Shrike in his yard. Same bird? Who
knows! That was a new yard bird for both of us.
