We received nearly 8 inches of fresh snow late Monday night and into Tuesday morning, and with the cool temps the ponds and backwaters remain frozen. The only significant open water is the main navigation channel, raft channel (state border line), and small creeks and delta areas. At Wildcat Creek delta this evening, a pair of Sandhill Cranes began initiating a nest- briefly pulling vegetation and arranging it. Most attempts at this location in the recent past, however, have been flooded out. Steve H.
