Three Wilson's Snipes have overwintered at Spring Creek in Wild River State
Park. I last photographed them at the end of November 2012 and then did not get
back to check on them until yesterday. Still in the exact same spot as back in
November. Apparently they did not get the memo about hypothermia! The photo
below is from this morning Thursday, Feb 7, 2013.

Spring Creek is a rather short, but robust, spring-fed stream that passes by
the Park boat landing parking lot and then empties into the St. Croix River.
The spring water is warm enough to keep this stream open for the short distance
it takes to get to the river. Thus the available habitat for the snipes. The
Park road to the boat landing is closed to vehicles during the winter months.

Croix River.
