Hi again, I understand and agree that GW is responsible for alot of range expansion, just not all range expansion. I am also aware that GW started long before it was a popular topic. That said, I (and almost every other birder on LI) was at a loss to explain the cardinal expansion and even in hindsight I don't think GW had as much impact as the "new" food sources. NB 77 -83 were some of the coldest winters on record on LI. At that time we had redpolls at many feeders and flocks of WW crossbills regularly along the beach. Both these species became much less common in the next 20 yrs (GW?). Another species to consider is cattle egret, now on LI. How much of their expansion is due to GW vs normal range expansion of an introduced species. Finally, I do think using Turkeys as an example of GW expansion is dangerous at best due to all the reintroduction programs. Currently my area is overrun with turkeys and they are definately not here because of GW. _________________________________________________________________ Windows Liveā¢: Keep your life in sync. http://windowslive.com/explore?ocid=TXT_TAGLM_WL_t1_allup_explore_022009 ---- Join or Leave mou-net:http://lists.umn.edu/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=mou-net Archives:http://lists.umn.edu/archives/mou-net.html
