Recently, two feeding stations were placed along the Alder Road in a consistant
Boreal Chickadee area (I found 6 here one day). So, if you are in Itasca
County and want a shot a Boreal Chickadee, feel free to visit these. I'll try
to maintain them for a month or so with fresh suet.

Each station is simply a large (several pound) hunk of beef suet hung
discreetly in a tree in boggy areas just north and just south of Middle Creek
on Alder Road near Marcell. The food is not obvious if you're not looking for
it (to prevent disturbance), so you should just go to about 2.7 and 3.2 miles
north of where Alder Road intersects CR 48. The UTM coordinates for each stop
are 445440mE, 5264173mN and 445100mE, 5263437mN.

I haven't birded the stations just yet, but 4 Gray Jays came in during the
placement and began attacking the suet south of Middle Creek. These bogs are
loaded with White-winged Crossbills as well and I have a credible report of
Spruce Grouse in a connected bog, though I have yet to see one there myself.
Thanks in advance for not disturbing the suet or the surrounding trees if you
bird here. Good luck!
