Karen Sussman and I also saw a three-toed woodpecker on the Virginia count (originally located and "staked out" by Steve and Deb Falkowski)
Participants in last years Isabella CBC counted 3 American Three-toed Woodpeckers matching Beltrami Island for a all-time grand total of 9 woodpeckers each. Three-toed Woodpeckers were recorded from Isabella, Sax-Zim, Two Harbors, Pine County, and Grand Rapids on count day. Beltrami Island recorded a count week bird. This gave Minnesota a total of 9 for the year, the most in the lower 48 states. Montana had 8, Idaho 1, Colorado 1, and Wyoming 1.
