I saw a Summer Tanager earlier today (Friday) at the southeast end of Linwood Lake in northern Anoka County, near the northwest corner of Carlos Avery WMA. To get to the location, take Jordell (spelled Jodrell on some signs) north from Lexington Avenue (Co. Rd. 17), drive past the Boot Lake SNA and continue driving until the road comes to a T-intersection at the southern end of Linwood Lake. Take a right at the T and park at the dead end. There's an informal trail at the dead end which leads to the main trail that runs along the eastern shore of Linwood Lake. The bird was in the area where the informal trail intersects the main trail. This is at the southern end of a relatively large stand of tall white pines. The bird is either a first-year male or a female.
