That sounds very odd.
First, diagnosis:
$ cd /Library/Frameworks/Mono.framework/External/xbuild/Novell
$ grep -l CheckDuplicateJava *
Novell.MonoDroid.Build.Tasks.dll
Novell.MonoDroid.Common.targets
Do you see the same?
Yep. Exactly the same here. It's on BZ #8022
