Don't know about your app but mine doesn't need access to logcat except for error reporting. So I've created thin wrapper around Log which holds last X number of entries in circular list and provides aggregated report when crash occurs. This way I don't need access to logcat and am able to keep more detailed "log". Might work for you :) Another thing I have added was option to comment and/or report on minor things (not related to crashes or errors) again via Google docs. Pretty handy to get in app feedback.
