May I refer you to the IntentService Java documentation...

        "the service is started as needed, handles each Intent in turn using a 
worker thread, and stops itself when it runs out of work."

Your Service is destroyed because you ran out of work, and IntentService is 
stopping itself (i.e. your service).

If you don't want your Service to be destroyed, don't subclass IntentService.
