A more optimized layout serving the same purpose would be:

android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"
android:orientation="vertical" >
<ListView
android:id="@id/android:list"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="0dp"
android:layout_weight="1" >
</ListView>
<TextView
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="Some text here" />
</LinearLayout>
Less nesting means faster layout. Also I would prefer to use the Android
predefined ID for the ListView.
