Not sure if this workaround is known, but I've solved the slowness of the
simulator the next way:

I use ubuntu as a host system for running android emulator,
M4A is running in VirtualBox. Emulator connection is done via port
forwarding (with putty or similar).

This way I get near real time debugging - absolutely no delays.

The emulator itself is quite fast (comparing to windows based) - it runs on
near real time, as some of my devices.

The only drawback is that for some reason M4A thinks that this emulator is
'real device' - I don't know if this is always or only my setup speciality.
