The app I'm writing starts up in around 2 seconds from cold on a Dell Streak 5 and is pretty fast. Are you doing a lot in your OnCreate? I'm only doing a minimal amount in my OnCreate and am using an AsyncTask to do any long-winded start-up stuff.
