After doing a bit of research and a small amount of experimentation I think
making our WCF services restful will be the least painful way to go.

I agree with Jon.  The wcf support is experimental.  I've had it work where
the datatypes are fairly simple and I have used basic auto.  Outside of
windows, rest web services is very common.  You might want to look into
putting a rest interface in front of your services.
