from my very simple MonoDroid 'restaurant guide' sample
https://github.com/conceptdev/RestaurantGuide/blob/master/RestGuide_Android/Activities/RestaurantActivity.cs

    public class RestaurantActivity : Activity
    {
        string restaurantName;

        protected override void OnCreate(Bundle bundle)
        {
            base.OnCreate(bundle);

            restaurantName = *Intent*.GetStringExtra("Name");
// ...

here the *Intent* you are referencing is *not* the Type but an instance
property of the Activity. It already 'contains' the intent extras data
passed to the activity. This is a .NET 'property syntax wrap' of the
Java Android.App.Activity.get_Intent()
(i think:)
