WISCOMBE MEMORIES.

I started going to Wiscombe in the late '60s when a member of the West Hants
and Dorset Car Club, who at the time administered the hill. It was a priviledge
to witness the likes of Patsy Burt blasting up the hill in her MacLaren M3
Oldsmobile and David Good going just as fast with just one arm. Other
"legends" competing at Wiscombe at the time were Tony Marsh, Sir Nicholas
Williamson, David Hepworth and later Roy Lane. It was spine tingling on a
crisp, still Sunday morning to hear the sound of an un-silenced racing engine
on full song, echoing through the trees, as it came up the straight towards
Martini hairpin.
Little did I realise that almost 40 years later I would fulfill an ambition by
competing at Wiscombe myself in my Class 9 Plus 8, which still holds the
Speedmog class record!
Happy days! Tim.

I've been to Wiscombe once. Soon after I sold my Tasmin.
The course was so slippery that the TVR boys (and many other classes) decided
not to run.
We enjoyed our picnic, but had trouble getting our small group of Chimeras
and Griffiths out of the car park...

  Cheers,
  Graham W

Is that because Wiscombe is a bit challenging/daunting through the trees in
the Esses? I have done the odd sprint on an airfield in a TVR Griffith 400 that
was tweaked and tuned up, but would think theat giving it some at Wiscombe
would be a bit of a challenge. I went to the recent Vintage Car club hill climb
and had a great respect and admiration for the drivers giving there valuable
cars stick on the course.

    Regards,

    Adrian

Wiscombe has it for atmosphere, but as a driver, I preferred Gurston. I
was always fast there!

I like a drive down to Gurston. But there's no SpeedMog round this year...
