why:
I've been programming with perl for years, but mostly for my own
selfish benefit :-) I recently wrote something that I think others
might find useful: a background script that gets your email from an
imap server and puts it directly into a local mbox file, so you can
continue to pretend that it was delivered directly to your machine.
It connects with https, supports keeping your password in a secure
keyring, and uses IDLE rather than polling so email arrives without
delay. It is, in a sense, almost entirely unlike fetchmail.
