I downloaded the file, unzipped it. allCountries.txt is just over 1Gb.
Then I ran
perl -wle 'my $a = 0; while ( <> ) { $a++; print }; END{ warn "Processed $a
countries\n"}' allCountries.txt > /dev/null
and it completes within seconds without any signs of problems.
Am I missing something?
