The following module was proposed for inclusion in the Module List:

  modid:       WebService::UMLS::Similarity
  DSLIP:       adpOg
  description: Semantic Similarity with UMLS Web Services
  userid:      TPEDERSE (Ted Pedersen)
  chapterid:   15 (World_Wide_Web_HTML_HTTP_CGI)
  communities:
    http://groups.yahoo.com/group/umls-similarity

  similar:
    UMLS::Similarity

  rationale:

    This module will provide an interface to Web Services provided by
    the National Library of Medicine (USA) for the Unified Medical
    Language System (UMLS). This interface will be used to create
    various measures of semantic similarity and relatedness, which has
    wide application in Natural Language Processing and Information
    Retrieval. This module is related to UMLS::Similarity in that they
    have similar goals, although UMLS::Similarity gets information from
    a locally installed database where WebService::UMLS::Similarity will
    get information via Web Services offered by the National Library of
    Medicine.
