The following module was proposed for inclusion in the Module List:

  modid:       Net::Traceroute::Native
  DSLIP:       bdpOn
  description: traceroute in perl via raw sockets
  userid:      TSCANLAN (Tom Scanlan)
  chapterid:    5 (Networking_Devices_IPC)
  communities:

  similar:
    Net::Traceroute

  rationale:

    Net::Traceroute pretends that there is "one true traceroute" and
    parses the output of the system traceroute binary. Not all
    traceroute implementations are taken into account. By implementing
    the traceroute functionality in native perl, we avoid having to
    parse the many different traceroutes.

    Net::Traceroute::Native avoids removing the current user base.
    Also, the raw sockets require root access, so it is good to keep a
    fallback for the security minded. HAG (owner of Net::Traceroute) and
    I have spoken about this and he has made changes to allow this
    subclass.

    tscanlan

The resulting entry would be:

Net::Traceroute::
::Native bdpOn traceroute in perl via raw sockets TSCANLAN
