I would like to contribute a collection of modules which provide a
unified interface for accessing addressbook entries stored in various
type of databases (e.g. LDAP, LDIF, BBDB, PalmOS, SQL Databases,
etc...). The modules use the following namespace:

AddressBook
AddressBook::Entry
AddressBook::Config
AddressBook::DB::LDAP
AddressBook::DB::LDIF
AddressBook::DB::PDB
AddressBook::DB::DBI
AddressBook::DB::Text
AddressBook::DB::HTML

Another developer on this project, Mark Hershberger, previously sent a
note requesting the AddressBook:: namespace
(http://www.xray.mpe.mpg.de/mailing-lists/modules/2000-08/msg00071.html),
and we have heard no objections.

We have contacted the owner of an "AddressBook.pm" module which is part
of the PostScript-MailLabels distribution, but have heard no response.

AddressBook ModuleList info:
DSLI = "RmpO" (released, mailinglist support, perl only,
object-oriented)
Description= "Unified Address Book Interface"

This project (also known as perl-abook) has a home page:
http://perl-abook.sourceforge.net. On that page is a link to archives
of the perl-abook-tech mailing list, where much of the design was
discussed. The original idea for this project came out of discussions
on the ldap-abook-tech mailing list (archived at
http://www.geocrawler.com/redir-sf.php3?list=ldap-abook-tech) about the
need for a unified Address Book interface.

Documentation for all of the perl-abook modules is available at
http://perl-abook.sourceforge.net

Thank you very much,
David Leigh
