Lyle, I know part of the problem is that these modules are maintained with perl. As a result, the search.cpan.org linked RT is the wrong place to report these issues. It may be that in core, the fixes you require are there and therefore overdue to be released to CPAN. Either way, the escallation process is either to join p5p's mailing list and inquire or to generate a perlbug about specific issues.
