No, 'this Sunday' is _still_ in the future: It's the day seven days in the
future. 'Today' is the present, and 'next Sunday' at that point can
either be 7 or 14 days in the future, depending on context...
This Midwestern American has to agree, "this Sunday" is shorthand for
"this coming Sunday", and thus remains in the future.
