This looks okay to me. I have sometimes seen behavior like what you're experiencing on specific machines and not on others, while running identical code. I never quite got to the bottom of it, but I assumed it had something to do with the kernel versions, or with the way top was reporting memory. Can you try this on another machine? - Perrin
