Hi folks, I've just autolanded the first part of the meta ticket Bug 1414415 [1], which tracks removing --without-gradle entirely and only supporting building --with-gradle. The landed commit disables building and smoke testing --without-gradle.
If you have --without-gradle in your mozconfig, remove it. There is no longer any need to test --without-gradle, although you can't break the mobile/android/base/moz.build definitions just yet [2]. It's been a long road, but we're starting to see the payoffs: the GeckoView team is starting to leverage new Android tooling like Kotlin and the new testing infrastructure unlocked by Gradle to move fast.
