What is the audio volume ?
Do things change when you use the -l option ?

If that does noch help try -l -1, and then set the mixer with a mixer 
progam. Does the output volume change when you start recording ?
You should hear that on the output.

Than I would guess that it is a mixer problem with lavrec and the mixer
