Hi All, Thanks for your replies! I haven't had time to check out any of the suggestions. In general, as a working scientist, I'm looking for a tool that I can use when I want to browse through a bunch of simulation plots, by myself or with others. I really like quicktime's interface - you hit the right arrow and you move forward one frame. Much easier than editing a bash script.
Another important application is of course giving presentations. When asked by an audience member "go to the middle of the movie. Now go back 2 frames. Wait wait, could you go up 4 more?" I can't edit a bash script, and don't want to waste brain cycles on wading through a dir of numbered image files. Dragging a pointer on a progress bar and hitting left/right arrow keys is the way to go. It's really a matter of finding the viewer I want, which is pretty much a glorified jpeg viewer with a nice set of controls. I'll look at your suggestions.
