Oh yes. Though you'd need lavplay or the zr output mode with mplayer to do it. 
There may be more ways, but none that I know of.

If you're using lavrec, there's the -q argument that directly controls the 
quality versus file size ratio. And -d can be a crude, but effective, way to do 
it. If you're not using lavrec, then I don't know.

Well, um... If your tuner card has, let's see... Either composite or S-video 
output, the simplest hack is a cable from the tuner card output to the 
appropriate DC10+ input.
