though are transcode's ;) (Hint: if they use pkg-config to get the
settings for mjpegtools they'll have fewer problems). I think any
transcode issues will be with its not using the YUV4MPEG2 API and
hardcoding references to structure members and the like.

That's not mjpegtools responsibility ;) It's up to the compressionist
to arrive at the proper settings for each job (and each job is
different).

Seriously - waiting until the 3rd release candidate is almost done with
and just a couple days before the actual release is NOT the proper
time to raise your hand and say "I haven't done the testing that I
should have been doing for the last 3 months".
If there are problems there can, in the near future, be a 1.8.1
release. RC3 was aimed at finding any last minute build problems,
not as a "Gentlemen it is time to start your testing".
I'd rather, after all this time, get the release done and collect
bug reports towards 1.8.1
