        Hurrah!  At long last the release has begun.

        As was pointed out it's 1.7.0

        and I already know something that'll be in RC2 :)  A last minute
        fix to the cpuinfo.sh script for PPC (primarily OS/X) users - nothing
        most folks would notice though.

        With the extensive testing period that's already happened I wouldn't
        expect any major bugs (program crashing, artifacting in the MPEG-2
        output, and so on).  A few build related gotchas perhaps on some
        systems hopefully will be the only bugs found.

        A bit better than 'kinda' - been in production use for quite a few
        months now by some folks <grin>
