The original question didn't contain much information as to what worked and 
what didn't, but when I tried loading MJPEG AVIs into Cinelerra a while ago, it 
did read them all right, but it couldn't handle interlaced images.

I don't know why or how (being a video editing application, one would think 
interlaced MJPEG frames would be a piece of cake), but Cinelerra does seem to 
frown upon this kind of input.
