I fear that the 1MBit you wanted is not reacable. Just increase the
bitrate to values like 2000,3000 ...

You might also need to increas the video buffer.

mplex means mutiplexing at least one audio and one video stream.

Try mp2 audo first. As far as I know mutliplexing mpeg1 video and layer
3 audio is not allowed.

That message usually happen when you have to low bitrate. 

Replace in the mplex comannd the -r with a much higher value. Try adding
the -b with values like 200,300,400. You might also take a look at the
mplex -V option.
