MPEG1 can be played back by the MS Media Player. But you should not use
to fancy options. There are reports that the Media Player does not
support ever possible option well. 

But now most systems have something that can play back a DVD (MPEG2),
including MAC OS/X (at least my 10.3.3). Except the the M$ based systems
does not have by default.
