        Can't help you there - I never have that problem with the DV
        capture method that I use (via a Canopus ADVC100).

        Sure, worse that can happen is the advice is ignored :)

        I have had very good luck with the JVC deck (it's a S-VHS capable unit
        andhas S-Video connectors ).  I forget the model number but a visit
        to bhphoto should turn it up.   The other brand that served well
        was the Sony - it could play/track tapes that choked other VCRs.
