Ok - but that's the last 22 hours I'll spend with that for a while ;) I used a capture from a low quality (EP mode VHS is about as low as one can get ;)). Total play time was about 158318 frames or 88 minutes (black/white). The difference is very slight but running the 2nd y4mspatialfiter _after_ y4mdenoise is a little lower. Significant? Probably not, but it didn't slow things down so saving the extra megabyte or so didn't cost anything. 1) For y4mspatialfilter | y4mdenoise | y4mspatialfilter INFO: [mplex] No. I Frames : 10757 avg. size 27568 bytes INFO: [mplex] No. P Frames : 147561 avg. size 8845 bytes INFO: [mplex] No. B Frames : 0 avg. size 0 bytes INFO: [mplex] Average bit-rate : 2425600 bits/sec INFO: [mplex] Peak bit-rate : 7731200 bits/sec 2) y4mspatialfilter | y4mspatialfilter | y4mdenoise INFO: [mplex] No. I Frames : 10757 avg. size 28070 bytes INFO: [mplex] No. P Frames : 147561 avg. size 8871 bytes INFO: [mplex] No. B Frames : 0 avg. size 0 bytes INFO: [mplex] Average bit-rate : 2439200 bits/sec INFO: [mplex] Peak bit-rate : 7724800 bits/sec at this point I'm not going to bother with another day's encoding time to try the simpler case of "y4mspatialfilter | y4mdenoise". The difference is probably not worth the time/effort. It does, at least for VHS sources, appear to be worth adding a mild y4mspatialfilter as a "low pass filter" before going into other filters (such as y4mdenoise).
