When a programm chrashes it should be able to make a core file, often the distributions have that disabled, so you need to check with ulimt -a the core filesite and set is to a certain amount of blocks (about 60MB) thant you should get a core file and be able to dig in it with the gdb or insight/ddd if you like some gui, you have to make soure that the debugger has access to the source files.
