Very true. I do have the precise parameters (they were in Richard's initial posting) as well as 30s of the data, and I do have an Athlon system. The Suse 9.0 system uses gcc 3.3.1 and Richard mentioned his system (on which mpeg2enc was built) as having 2.95.3 - that's a significant difference and I suspect that will perturb the experiment. I'll try the clip on the Athlon and see what happens but I suspect it'll look just fine. I did try the exact same parameters and when nothing unusual was seen I started experimenting to see if I could cause the artifacts to appear.
