I just read about the lofty claims made on www.kvcd.org and was impressed. Fitting
upto 180 minutes on a single CD-R is impressive. All the examples given used tmpgenc
and other Windows tools. I am a Linux user.

I was glad to see that mpeg2enc now supports the -K kvcd to specify the magic custom
quantisation matrix.

I tried this (using dvd::rip, transcode latest version and mjpeg 1.6.1-90) but I was
dissapointed by the results. The filesize of my resulting MPG1 (VCD) was no smaller as
compared to not using -K kvcd.

What is the recommended way to use this? If I specify a manual bitrate of, say
2000kbps (ok that becomes a XVCD), does that defeat the purpose of using -K kvcd?

How about the "-q" switch to mpeg2enc? I believe transcode/dvdrip use the default
setting for this, which is 8?

How do I go about getting high quality MPG1 streams and least filesize using this new
feature? I regularly use a manual bitrate of 2000kbps to get very nice quality VCDs,
but I pay the price for the high bitrate since even 100 minutes needs more than 1 CD-R.

Thanks for any help
