An analog to digital video converter. Several people on this list use them.

I don't know. Whatever was cheapest at the local computer store when I went looking for one.

There are several places online. I got mine from www.macmall.com (despite the fact that I am not a mac user).
The manufacturer's site is www.canopus.com.
4. Where can I buy the Firewire card which you use?
If I understand correctly, most of the firewire cards out there are built around the same chip, so I don't know that brand really matters. I honestly have no idea what mine is.

analog camcorder and digital camcorder.
Yes. Firewire does DV. ADVC-100 converts analog to DV. So you could do both.
