Problem solved but the mystery remains...
I rebuilt/installed mjpegtools a few times and things started working
again (yuvplay also ceased functioning at the same time as it turns
out). It's not a memory flake (ECC memory in use), disc cache or
dynamic loader coherency glitch is my guess at the moment.
y4mscaler is superb! Amazingly good - pity I dont have the tapes
any more that I created the SVCDs with last year. Oh well.
