I just spent the evening looking at various security (cam-based), editing and and PVR solutions for linux.
The number of libraries/utils/projects to deal with all the various video/audio codecs/formats and applications are overwhelming. Everywhere I turned tho, mplayer's video player/encoder, NuppelVideo's format (compromising everywhere) and ffmpeg's codec showed strength, even avifile's page mentioned converting everything to use ffmpeg. Lots of mention towards mjpeg as it's the strongest MJPEG solution with the video editing applications. I suppose there is huge strength in exact frames. MPEG2 video and audio still seems the way to go with PVR applications. Who cares if when you wait until the next GOP when a user pauses his video? Security apps seem to to need smaller raw/yuv frames for long term storage and quick motion detection capabilities. Looking for a piece of hardware and/or software combination that gives you the best of all worlds but there really isnt. Not yet at least. ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: Scholarships for Techies! Can't afford IT training?
