Hi guys,

Over the last 9 days, we've seen 182 commits of bug fixes, artwork
updates, and general polish to the 1.8 branch. Thanks to feedback from
some keen testers on the Ubuntu 10.10, we were also able to find two
bugs that would affect users of the new Ubuntu. The first one has
already been fixed (a missing runtime dependency on QtSql's SQLite
plugin) but the other hasn't been fixed yet because it's a Qt bug, and
it won't be fixed until Qt 4.7.1 (won't be in Ubuntu 10.10):

RJ's found a temporary workaround that fixes the problem 99% of the
way, and we now have to get that fix into Universe or Mixxx is going
to look super ugly for our Ubuntu users. Since Ubuntu is well beyond
the feature and beta freezes for 10.10, I'll be filing a feature
freeze exception in Ubuntu to help get this fix in. However, since
we've done a ton of testing and bugfixing since the RC, I think it
makes more sense to try to push through a final 1.8.0 release instead
of just one visual bug fix. The current Mixxx package in Ubuntu 10.10
is a 1.8.0 release candiate, but unfortunately I didn't append "RC" to
the version string, and so I might have to call it 1.8.0.1 or 1.8.1 to
get the updated package in.

In order for all of this to happen, we should freeze and tag the 1.8.0
release tomorrow (Wednesday, Sept 22, 2010). Putting it off any longer
is going make getting the freeze exception through more difficult, and
so I think the time is right to call Mixxx 1.8.0 finished. Once we tag
the release in BZR, it might take us a week before we make a public
release because we still need to build binaries and prepare some PR
stuff.

Thanks, and everyone should give themselves a pat on the back. This is
going to be an exciting release. :)
Albert
