Just upgraded an amd64 system from the Nov.11 snap to Jan. 8th and now X
freezes the system. Tried again with a clean install of the Jan 9th
snap, thinking it might have been a fluke, but I'm still getting
freezes. It had been working fine with the Nov. 11 snap; no xorg.conf
needed.
startx results in a black screen, the box does not respond to pings, I
can't switch to virtual consoles, can't break into ddb, and I have to
hold down the power button to turn it off. Running "X -configure" gets
to the line reading:
(==) Log file: "/var/log/Xorg.0.log", Time: Sun Jan 9 23:35:32 2011
and then sits there with a blinking cursor; again the machine is totally
unresponsive. Xorg.0.log is a zero-byte file.
Dmesg follows, sorry I can't provide an Xorg.0.log or get to ddb. If any
other info is helpful, I'd be happy to provide it.
The one slightly unusual thing about this system is I usually use a
DisplayPort to DVI adapter to drive the monitor. I did try switching to
the VGA port and the same freeze happens there.
